Military Healthcare Risk Management & Patient Safety Consultant


POSITION SUMMARY:
Join a team of passionate healthcare professionals supporting the deployment of principles of High Reliability Organizations (HRO) to military healthcare. Facilitate changes that aim to impact clinical and business processes related to how care is delivered to active duty military. Analyze, plan, and implement initiatives that drive high reliability in healthcare processes, leading to improved safety and decreased risk in a complex environment. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Integrate high reliability principles into the operation of the military healthcare system. Maintain state of the art knowledge as a consultant on issues related to risk management policy and procedures. Provide guidance and serve as an expert resource within the team.                            

Investigate and analyze risk exposures utilizing proven methods. Design and implement educational materials that spread the understanding and implementation of patient safety and risk reduction standards. Evaluate and adopt innovative approaches to reduce the risk for error and improve human performance. Generate new approaches to eliminate recurring problems.

Develop problem definitions, process analysis, reporting and measurement systems, as well as facilitate root cause analysis investigations. Implement statistical process control where appropriate. Produce and present data analysis of patient safety and risk management trends and actions to senior hospital leadership and medical staff.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, healthcare management, nursing or related field
  • Seven (7) years of healthcare experience in a hospital setting, with three (3) or more years as a patient safety officer or risk specialist
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification


PREFERRED:

  • Masters Degree in healthcare administration or related field
  • Military service or professional experience working with the military
